I had heard about these Poppy fields last year during a meeting with the Emerald Photographic Society and have since wanted to take some photos of them. I read somewhere that there used to be a field of pink Poppies but that one is gone and this year, there is a field of red ones. Either way, I was so excited to finally shoot them. I drove up to Junction City in search of these fields. After driving around for a bit, I finally found them! If you know me personally, you will know that I love Poppies. They are one of my favorite flowers. The day was beautiful for shooting! It had been raining and the blue sky was peeking through the white fluffy clouds. Here are a few of my favorite shots.
We got lucky with the location and the lighting. I really wanted to go for that warm fuzzy feel to the photos. The text in the first photo was provided by Vol.25. She does amazing art and overlays for your photography.
The owner of the land was very helpful and allowed us to venture into their backyard. I was so excited to do this shoot with a friend of mines daughter. I had some ideas but really just wanted to have fun with it. We spent about an hour taking different shots and the weather was beautiful. When you live in Oregon, you really never know what you will get. You can see more images on my facebook page.
I've always wanted to do photos on the beach and this was the perfect opportunity. Jessica from Vol.25 provided some awesome text overlays. It has been awful sitting so far away and not being able to help them in any way. I was up late at night with worry. Families were evacuated from the small town of Pateros all of the sudden and lost so much. Most of my family lives up the Methow and fought all night trying to save their homes. They managed to save it by some miracle. God sure did shield them. We knew they were stuck up there with no where to go. Our close friends who lived in Pateros were not so lucky. My Aunt lost her home and close friends lost theirs. I'm so thankful that they are safe. It wont be easy for them for awhile.

Some photos of the families homes. These photos were not taken by me but by friends and family.
I was lucky to get one. I wanted to practice shooting with my 50mm lens and posing. This young lady was amazing and she even said that she didn't think she was very photogenic! She was very wrong and I'm so happy with how the photos turned out. I'm loving my 50mm lens and I can't wait to shoot more with it.
I tend to go at something with good intentions and then get distracted with something else. But such is life and I try to do my best.

I've been busy as of late with lots of photos! I've been inspired and busy with ideas. I want to share with you some that I am very pleased with.

These photos started out as a challenge presented by the photography club I belong to. The challenge was "Cold". It went from simple to something more and I love how they turned out. These ladies were willing to help me out. I made the head pieces out of garland and then bought some sparkly stuff for the face.
It was interesting and not to say, I felt like the noob. They made me feel welcome and I got to sit in on their critiquing of some photos for their monthly digital contest. It was interesting and I do love to see others work. The wide range of photographers is fairly large I think and I hope to walk away from this experience with some lessons under my belt.

I really wanted to join a group of like-minded individuals and I think I may have found some. I always feel pretty alone when it comes to my photography and I feel like I bore those around me with my babbling of it all the time. I enjoy it and I love talking about it. It gets me excited and motivated to learn more. Now I can listen to others babble about it too. I hope to learn a lot and I will be going back. So, that was my evening! Now for some of the recent photos I've done.

I recently grabbed my daughter and dressed her up like a doll (not literally) but anyways..... I fixed her up and set up my carport. I don't have a studio and do with what I have. I think it works just fine for my kids and families kids but I feel like it's a bit unprofessional to take others photos in it. I mean, I do live in a trailer park. My daughter loves to model for me and I think she does a pretty bang up job of it. She doesn't whine to much about the odd things I put on her and she is a trooper. So without further delay, here are some of my favorite shots I got.
I find it appropriate since it feel likes a fresh start. Rain to wash away the past and afterwards, it leaves a trail of beauty. Last April I started a mission and for a year, I have stuck pretty close to it. My mission was to work out and eat better. The amazing part was that the working out was the easy part. It was the eating better that was hard. It's no wonder America is so overweight. We have fast food on every corner and the prices for processed foods are so much cheaper. They pretty much didn't give us much of a choice if we wanted to pay the bills and eat too. If you are on the lower end of the scale when it comes to wages, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Buying healthier food is a challenge and it's one that I will conquer. I've started buying more veggies and fruit now that spring is here and the produce section is looking good again. I would love to start buying more organic cause frankly, the stuff we ingest from non organic is scary. But we do what we have to do and all we can do is try.

Last April, I buckled down with some help and started on a journey. I actually started working out. For the longest time, it was all talk and no action. I knew what I wanted but finding the motivation was difficult. I found it in the most unlikely places and with that, I started. I do have to say that the first two months were a struggle but worth the pain. It took me that long to start a habit and I found that if I missed a day or two, I was mighty cranky ( not my words but my moms ) LOL I started noticing a change in how I felt and how I looked at everything. I started not hating myself so much in the mirror cause I knew that I was working hard. It was hard not seeing the inches shed as fast as I wanted but I kept at it cause I knew that my fat would let go eventually. If I put it on, I knew that I could take it off. If it was only as easy as changing your clothes. I couldn't do this alone and I had some good friends motivating. We all started the journey together and kept tabs on one another. There were times that I broke down and cried and there were times that I felt high on life. Everyone runs into the mental walls of working out and it's no fun but we cry it out and then get back up and finish the workout. It always felt good to just cry it out. We don't want those feelings trapped inside cause they will literally weigh you down. The last few months have been a major struggle and I gained back five pounds of the 25 I lost but I try to be positive about it. I could have gained more and you can't look back. If I dwell on how much I gained back, I'll loose sight of how far I've come. As of today, I've already lost two pounds of the five and I will get rid of the last three and then I'll carry on. I have goals and I will reach them. I don't care how long it takes me, as long as I never quit. I never want to start over cause it's the pits. I won't quit on myself. I may even find myself along the way.
I got to go up and spend a day with my cousin Jess and her family in their new home. It was beautiful and relaxing. There is nothing like good company, great coffee and a bonfire with hot dogs. The weather was beautiful and the kids ran amuck. I can't wait to get back up there this summer to spend a few more days. I feel like it was to short. I miss them so much already. I managed to snap a few pics LOL.
I was very excited and got the iPod Touch 4. It was cheaper then the new one and frankly, I don't care for the size of the new ones. They are a bit to big for my taste. I wanted it for walking and I was excited to get it set up to do just that. But first, there was this matter of putting some music on it. I listen to a wide range of music but you can count out black metal or anything that sounds like screaming. I didn't load a bunch of stuff on the iPod cause I'm kinda pick like that. I wanted to put music on it that I could walk/run to. My playlist right now consists of Katy Perry, Skrillex and some mashups with a sprinkle of dubstep. I have this tendency to want to sing along to songs if I can and that doesn't work so well when you are out running. Although I am loving Katy Perry right now. I will sing out loud to some of her songs. I should apologize to the neighbors maybe? Oh and I can't forget the K-pop on there. I love listening to it!
I look back on my past and yeah, I wish I could go back and slap myself but I can't. So, I take from it and learn. I'm a bit of a slow learner when it comes to life and I always seem to take the hardest route possible. I think I've learned a lot and it's made me the person I am today. I'm a believer that I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for choices I made back then. I have two very beautiful kids that I firmly believe I wouldn't have otherwise.

In all honesty, I've been trying to be uplifting with these blog posts cause I wanted to do this challenge to get me into the habit of blogging but I'm struggling with the whole happy bit. If I knew 10 years ago that I would be in this place in my life now, I wouldn't believe it. It's been a rough few years in my life and I'm trying to piece it together with duct tape and good intentions. I know that it's just a bad time and the storm will pass. Like the quote I love, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's learning to dance in the rain." I try to remind myself daily with good thoughts, so I can get through it all. I put on a smile and bury myself in the things that I love. All I can ask is that if anyone is reading my blog, that you would have patience while I wade through the muck. I think I need some rubber boots. Need to dance in the rain with style after all.
When I got married, I moved down to Oregon and welcomed the rainy weather. Well, tried to that is. I love Oregon and how beautiful it is on the west side but nothing compares to the summers at home. They are hot and dry. I love eastern Washington. I try to go up every summer to spend at least a couple weeks. My kids love it and I don't think it could possibly be the fact that my parents have a pool. lol I love being there. I'm a different person there, relaxed and happy. I think it's the comfort of home. I want to go as often and for as long as I can cause I know that my parents wont be around forever. I want to spend as much time with them as I can and make sure that my kids have many opportunities to make memories with them.
I think the last one I finished was "Warm Bodies" by Isaac Marion. I had seen a preview for the upcoming movie and like most movies that are based off of books, are well.....better read. The movie looked good and I love zombie movies. I wanted to read the book first though. I went out and picked it up and was a bit miffed cause I couldn't find an original book without the movie poster front. Am I the only one that is annoyed with this? I just have a thing about books that turn into movies. I want the original cover please. I bought it anyways cause it was the only one I could find. It's a fast read and I loved it! It has this sense of humor about it that had me chuckling to myself and to boot, it's a love story. It's all written from the point of a view of a zombie and if you are slightly intrigued, then go read it! It was a fun one. I mean after all, even zombies need some love. (insert big smiley)
My daily routine is very simple. I'm not an over complicated person and my life is fairly ordinary. I think I have to much time on my hands some days and others I feel like there is not enough time.

I get up at 7:00 am, put on a pot of coffee and get the kids out of bed. Between then and 8:00, it's getting them fed and ready to go out to catch the bus. At 8, I put them on the bus and head back home to have a cup of coffee. Trust me, you don't want to know me without that cup or two of coffee in the morning. I really don't think it's the caffeine. I think it's the ritual of it that makes me feel like a sane person. I will eat some breakfast and sit down to fire up the laptop. Lately, I've been doing my blog posts then and it's worked out well. I will check sites and emails till I'm done with the coffee.

I would link this piece of art to the artist, but I can't find them anywhere.

Between the time of 9 am and 11 am, I'm cleaning and then taking a walk if it's a nice day. After that it's lunchtime. I will work in photoshop part of my afternoon till the kids get off the bus at 3 pm. And now my day suddenly seems mundane. LOL

Once my kids are home, it's homework time. The rest of the evening consists of cooking dinner and bath time. We are pretty laid back and I always get my kids ready for bed starting at 7 pm cause well, they have a bad habit of getting up and down out of bed. It literally takes my kids an hour to settle down. I put them in bed around 7:30pm and it's lights out at 8 pm. I've always kept this bedtime for them and I'm so thankful I have.

I tend to stay up for a few more hours either playing a video game or watching some t.v. I love my quiet time and I need it every evening to relax.Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03371247993850357881noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327126052250239862.post-64653489052312589832013-03-09T20:15:00.001-08:002013-03-09T20:15:29.637-08:00Day 9: Bucket List (31 Day Blog Challenge)This is a very long list actually. I will keep it short and sweet.

* Go to Bora Bora! Yeah, that's a big one but it's go big or go home?
* Complete a Warriors Dash or the Color Run
* Learn how to drive an ATV or dirt bike.
* Take more courses in photography
* See New York at night
* Travel to Greece
* Take photos of the hot pools at Yellowstone
* See every museum in New York
* Drive the entire west coast and take photos of course
* Go to the San Diego zoo

There is so much more but honestly, I'm so tired right now that I can't think straight. I spent my day hiking the Silver Falls and taking some photos. Here is one of my favorite shots of the day.

I think it's time for me to crawl into bed. I can't stop yawning and every time I do, my screen goes blurry. Goodnight everyone.Shannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03371247993850357881noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327126052250239862.post-41347902192655141592013-03-08T08:22:00.000-08:002013-03-08T08:22:35.689-08:00Day 8: Biggest Pet Peeve (31 Day Blog Challenge)

Pet peeves. Those two words bring on a lot of frustration cause that is a long list. I try to overlook a lot of things cause I don't want to go through life angry all the time cause frankly, the world can't go round without stupid people.

I know a lot of people know my pain but aside from them, the list may be a little longer then I want to say. So, I'll start with things around my own home.

1. peelings or egg shells in the sink
I don't understand this at all! There is a perfectly good trash can not 5 feet away!

2. Loogies in the sink! My husband has a nasty habit of hacking up crap out of his throat and spitting it in the sink or a glass and when I go to clean it.....*shudders* yeah, lets move along now.

3. Vague status'. This is highly annoying and I try not to do it but sometimes I think my status' come off a bit vague to those that don't know what is going on but if a person can't explain the status, then don't bother. To me that is just someone screaming for attention.

4. Rude people. Not sure what they would be called in my circumstance but it's those that get in my way when I'm taking pictures at a wedding. They are the ones that try to snap a pic and just get in my way. One of these days I'm gonna send them packing. I think I'm to nice sometimes.

5. You're or Your. Get it right!!

The list is long, so I'm gonna stop here LOLShannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03371247993850357881noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327126052250239862.post-30833702128094943602013-03-07T08:44:00.002-08:002013-03-07T08:44:36.001-08:00Day 7: Whats your dream job? (31 Day Blog Challenge)If you've read my blog or know me in life, then you will know that I love photography. I've been taking photos for the past 10 years and I still feel like I have much to learn. I don't think I'm anywhere near where I want to be but each day is a day closer. My dream job involves photography but not in the way most would expect. If you browse over my blog or check out my website, you will see loads of seniors and just portraits in general. I love taking portraits but what I truly want to do is couture photography. I love models with ridiculous clothing on. I crave to take photos that tell a story with the way they look. I love to watch America's Next Top Model but not for the model part of it really. I love seeing the photos! I love to google beautiful images of fashion photography. Maybe one day I'll venture into this part of photography but for now, I need to grow in what I do. One thing I've always lacked in is confidence and I know that taking photos of those around me will help improve that.

I really love looking at the Dior and Juicy Couture ads. It's amazing what they come up with. One thing I lack is knowledge of the photographers in this field. I simply love looking at the art they create. I need to do my research of photographers but the truth of the matter is, I'm horrible at remembering names! I can pick out photographers by their work, not their names.

What photographer wouldn't want to do this type of work?!! It's the best of everything in my book. I suppose I've touched on a bit of the stylized photos and I want to do it again. I hope to do another shoot this summer more like this one of Juicy Couture. I did a Boho shoot with my nieces and it was so much fun!

I love to do things for others and sometimes I go way to far out of my way for them but seeing others happy, makes me happy. I love to buy things for others, even if it's just a coloring book and new crayons. I just wish I had more money to do these sort of things. I also like to help those in need and feel like I need to do this more often. Where I live, we have a lot of panhandlers and I don't like to give them money. I have no idea what they do with it and I can only imagine. I'm a firm believer in working for things and not expecting a hand out. Although, I may get lazy sometimes but you wont catch me sitting on a street corner begging. So, this brings me to one of my acts of kindness. I saw a woman who was holding a sign saying she was hungry. I was heading over to the KFC for lunch and while I was at it, I bought a couple things off the dollar menu. As I was going back by her, I gave them to her. I knew that money had bought her food to help her that day and I could only hope that it would give her a start to a better day. I think we all need to help the needy if we can. I think showing someone else kindness will go a long way.

I was given this wonderful idea by my mom who was telling me a story about my sister in law. Every year, she pays for someones coffee in the drive through. I thought this was a great idea and I found myself in the drive through at a Starbucks and when I got up to the window to pay for my coffee, I had them add the coffee ordered from the car behind me to my bill. I will never know how they reacted but I had hopped that by my random act, they would pay it forward. If nothing else, it put a smile on my face and made my day better. We should all practice random acts of kindness. I feel that karma has a way of coming back. I remember as a kid and my parents were struggling with money and one day in the super market, we were a bit short to pay for the food at the register. The person behind us stepped forward and helped out. It's kindness like that, that keeps me trying to pay it forward.
We were trying to buy a house and it didn't pan out like we had hoped. So, we are stuck in our tin can for a bit longer. I'm trying to take it in strides and have a positive outlook. I've rearranged my living room which helps a little bit. But anyways, back to the purpose of this post. Cardboard boxes! Because we thought we would be moving soon, we started collecting boxes from my moms job at Barnes & Noble. I had this huge stack of them and it was depressing to look at them, so I turned them into something fun for my kids. I threw the stack out to the carport and grabbed some tape. I taped them up and started stacking them. My kids were right there helping and beyond giddy. So, what do you do with all these boxes? Why, build a fort!!

This is not an easy one to answer! How can there be a limit to this one. I love good movies and I I'm addicted to dance movies. I could watch any dance movie over and over again. I wont even begin to name those ones. It doesn't matter how corny or plot challenged, I'll watch it. I just love the dance part and if it's got a great plot, then it's a bonus. I know there are some who would choose the romantic movies but not me. Don't get me wrong, who doesn't love the Notebook or even the Lakehouse? Those are amazing movies and I adore them. But for me, it's the movies that I can't help but watch if they come on the t.v:

1. Burlesque (Singing and dancing, you can't go wrong)
2. Pitch Black (Who doesn't love Vin?!!)
3. Lord of the Rings (every last one of them! These are simply amazing to watch and I never tire of them)
4.Thomas Crown Affair ( I love a good heist movie! Twists and turns and movies that keep you on your toes)

Tolkien

There are many more but I'll only post a few =DShannonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03371247993850357881noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327126052250239862.post-30063998410446978622013-03-04T17:14:00.005-08:002013-03-04T17:18:12.214-08:00Day 4: Best Childhood MemoryI've been thinking about this one for awhile now and even though I have many, there is one that sticks out the most. My Grandfather. I never got to know him as well as I would have liked but the time that I did get to spend with him was full of good memories. He was a quiet man but boy could he tell you a story. There were times that we weren't sure if he was serious or not. He would keep a straight face and leave us all hanging. There are a few stories that I'm still wondering about. I think I need to be telling my kids these stories, so I wont be the only one wondering LOL.

He was a very talented man who sung and played the organ. He had an old recorder in the corner of the room by his chair. You would have never known cause it was hidden in the wall. What we didn't know is that he had set up a mic and a speaker. You see, their house had a cellar and then in the living room, there was a grate around the stove. You see, he put a speaker down there by the stove and the mic was up by his chair. He had me and my cousins convinced that there was a man named Mr. Grouch who lived in the cellar and he loved french fries and potato chips. Now, I'm not sure if i remember him being a man or thinking he was some creature but he was pretty cool. He did get a little grumpy if you didn't feed him, so us kids kept him in supply. We would crowd around the grate and talk down into the cellar and of course drop chips down. My grandfather would be over in his chair with the mic, softly cackling at us. We never did catch on till much later after he had passed away. I think I was about 7 then. It's amazing how much we remember at that age. I have some great memories of him and I'm so thankful that I got to know him for as long as i did, even if it was a short time. He will always be missed.

Now as I sit here thinking about this, I wonder who did the cleaning in the cellar cause I remember slipping quite a bit of chips down that grate.
There are many struggles and to many mountains to climb, so to speak. Some days I feel very overwhelmed with the feeling of loss and other days, I just feel like no matter how much I push forward, I end up taking a few steps back. It feels like walking through molasses. But without the sugary goodness of the cookies. When I saw what today's challenge was, I kinda just sat here and stared at a blank screen. "What makes me happy"......I realized that my mind is cluttered with all the bad things. If you read yesterdays post, you will know that I struggle to keep my head above water and to try and dance through each storm. It's not easy and this challenge reminded me of the small things in my life and a few large ones that keep me sane.

"What makes me happy?" you ask? My parents. They have been the pillars in my life and have always been there for me. I have been fortunate to have a few good relationship with them and I love them so much. I go and spend a few weeks with them every summer and it's never enough cause I know that one day, they wont be there.

My kids are also a smile in my day even though some days I want to string them up by their toes (as my dad would say to me when i was younger) But kids will be kids and I try to remember that. I love them to pieces and wouldn't change a thing. Well, maybe one actually but I really don't think the bedroom cleaning thing will improve.

I had the opportunity to meet the wonder and talented Shannon Sewell last year and she is the one that took this beautiful photo of my two rugrats. Thank you again Shannon!

I have been fortunate in being able to take photos of some wonderful people and that brings me to another one. My camera makes me very happy. Yes, an object brings me much joy but it's not just an object. It's a doorway to meeting new people. I'm kind of a wallflower most of the time but when I have my camera in hand, I kinda break out of my shell. It's like a security blanket to hide behind. I'm telling you, photographers can get away with murder LOL It's like having the golden ticket! It can get you into places hahaha. No, but really, my camera and I have met and taken photos of the most beautiful people, both inside and out and one of these families is the Roses. My cousin Jessica has been like a little sister to me and that will never change. I'm so very proud of her and what she has done and I was privileged enough to take some family pics of them. It was a bit out of my box though considering the pics were both indoor and Lifestyle. I've never done that before and it was both fun and nerve wracking LOL

And that's just a few things I love and that make me happy =D
I wanted to find a beautiful image of it and found this gorgeous artwork from Day to Be You.

I struggle with many things in my life and everyday I try to remind myself that I can do it. It's just one day at a time and nothing major is accomplished in one day. It's those little things we do everyday that lead up to achieving our goals. Don't underestimate the little things. I tend to just sit and wait for the storm to come cause I know it will and so I don't get anything done. Instead, i'm gonna learn to dance in the meantime and then i'll be better prepared for that storm. Another quote that I love is, "Those who mind, don't matter and those who matter don't mind" An old friend told me this one a long time ago and it still sticks with me. We shouldn't be afraid to be who we are cause those that love us for who we are don't mind us being a little a crazy from time to time. The best thing about this quote is that it's written by non other then Dr. Seuss. I think we could all use a little bit of Dr. Seuss in our lives.
